Prelims → Mains: Shortlisting

• In the preliminary stage, RPSC selected a large number of candidates to appear in the Mains exam. According to the Prelims result PDF/announcement, 19,355 Candidates were shortlisted for the Mains exam.
• The Prelims result (20 October 2023) lists the roll numbers of those qualified for the Mains stage.

Thus, from the thousands who applied and appeared in Prelims, about 19,355 progressed to Mains.

Mains → Interview: Shortlisting & Cut-to-Interview

• After Mains, RPSC shortlisted 2,168 candidates for the Personality/Viva-Voce (Interview) stage. This figure has been widely reported in the media.
• This shortlist was made against 905 vacancies.
• The Mains result preamble PDF dated 2 January 2025 explicitly lists roll numbers of candidates “provisionally qualified for the Personality and Viva-Voce Test.”

So, only about 11.22% (2,168 / 19,355) of those who were shortlisted for Mains were further shortlisted for interview.

Applicants vs. Appearances/Absentees

• The total number of candidates who initially applied or appeared for prelims is not precisely stated in the sources I reviewed.
• However, the Prelims result shows only those shortlisted for Mains (19,355). We do not have publicly confirmed numbers on the total who appeared in the prelims.

Therefore, the pass ratio from interview to final selection is approximately 905 / 2,168, ≈ 41.78% (assuming all shortlisted interviewees and all vacancies are taken), albeit this is an estimate.
