A 15 day Statewide Road Safety Campaign has been introduced under the initiatives of Chief Minister, Bhajanlal Sharma all over Rajasthan between 4 November and 18 November. This campaign will limit road accidents, improve traffic enforcement and improve emergency response systems. To have efficient ground level implementation, the nodal agency and field coordinator has been assigned to the Police Department.  1. Intense Police Enforcement of the Laws: -:  There is legal enforcement of the laws on vehicles whose number plates or reflectors are not put. Special patrols are on the major roads and highways 24hours. Constant auditing of highway mobile units and ambulances based on safety standards.

 2. Transport Department Intensive checking of overloading, unauthorized operations, and violation of fitness. Suspension or cancellation of driving licenses on instances of drunken driving and over speeding. Creation of awareness such as road safety workshops, installation of reflectors tapes, and campaigns.

 3. Public Works and NHAI Measures:-  Within 15 days, removal of unauthorized cuts, illegal dhabas and encroachments. Whitening, installation of railings and bushes along highways. The potholes and road shoulders should be repaired, signage and warning boards installed.

4. Health and Urban Development Department Measures:- Eye checkup camps of all the drivers who are 45 years and above. Enhancement of ambulance services, trauma centers, and hospital facilities to provide emergency medical services. City municipal authorities to fix traffic lights, enhance street lighting and eliminate footpath encroachment.

5. Labour Department Investigation: -This involves prosecution and fines on transport companies that unnecessarily subject the drivers to extended working hours. Making sure that the driver rest and work hours are met by the means of routine inspections and sensitization.

 6. District Level Coordination:-  District Collectors and Superintendents of Police working together in checking campaign progress via District Road Safety Committees. Cooperation with NGOs, young volunteers and local organizations on awareness campaigns on helmet usage, seat belt usage, mobile prohibition usage and dipper light usage. The citizens who help to pull out the accident victims are being rewarded on their social contribution.

Conclusion

The 15day campaign will be an integrated and coordinated road safety campaign in Rajasthan. The initiative is to take a step towards accident free highways in the state by incorporating high enforcement, creation of awareness, emergency preparedness and interdepartmental cooperation.
