Modi to Dedicate Dhordo as India’s Newest Solar Village

A remote village in Kutch district, Gujarat, Dhordo has been recognised all over the world as the Best Tourism Village by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). It will now be awarded in more glory as the latest solar-powered village in India. Dhordo will take official status of a Solar Village at the Samudra Se Samriddhi programme, in Bhavnagar, September 20, 2025, given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is a significant development to the village since the village is the fourth in Gujarat to have a solar-powered village.
Key Points in Detail:
Solar Village Initiative What is the Solar Village Initiative?
- Dhordo has shifted to complete solar energy with PM Surya Ghar, which is a government initiative to promote the use of solar energy in the rural areas.
- The entire residential power connections of the village are solarized and this implies that the entire village can be switched onto solar power and this will go a long way in eradicating the use of conventional fossil fuels that pollute the environment.
Solar Energy Technologies:
- The solar photovoltaic (PV) system implemented in the village can convert the sunlight to electricity using solar cells and therefore it is a renewable energy source which is environmentally friendly.
- Another type of solar technology that is utilized in heating water using solar energy is solar thermal and therefore consuming less energy in the village will be more sustainable.
Global Situation and Vision of India:
- Utilization of solar energy is getting more and more popular in the world due to the environmental friendliness and decreasing its cost.
- The goal of India to achieve its solar power of 450 GW by the year 2030 would be a massive step towards its climate commitments and this would aid in escaping the overdependence on foreign fossil fuels.
- The push to solar energy is also related to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 7) on clean and affordable energy, SDG 10 on the establishment of social inclusion by expanding access to energy.
Importance of Solar Energy:
- The renewable energy will be solar energy which will provide a long term energy source that will be in a position to sustain the rising global energy demand.
- It is an inevitable part of sustainable development because of the endless opportunities of solar energy that can be utilized to generate electricity, cooling and heating, and lighting.
Dhordo and Gujarat: This is mean.
- Consistent with the aim of the Indian government in reducing the carbon footprints, and creating communities that are environmentally conscious is the fact that Dhordo is converted into a solar-powered village.
- It is also an effort that sees a focus on community based development whereby the local communities are able to access clean renewable energy and are given an opportunity to improve their standards of living.
Conclusion
The successful solarization of Dhordo is an excellent accomplishment with respect to the fact that India is concerned with sustainable energy. It shows the degree of attainment of clean energy solutions at the grassroots level and uses it as a prototype of rural energy transformation. It is pertinent that the Dhordo village is drawn as a solar-powered village as it is already a great move into the Indian green energy revolution that also assists the solar energy role to achieve the climate targets and the socio-economic development of the rural areas.
