Kachwaha dynasty of Rajasthan


Kachwaha dynasty was a well-known Rajput clan which governed Amer and then Jaipur. Kachwaha declared themselves as descendants of Lord Ram's son Kush making them the Raghuvansh Tilak. Famous for their early growth after Narwar to Amer, they contributed greatly to Mughal-Rajput relations and in the architectural growth of Jaipur. Their reign was that assembly of military power, of administrative organization, and of cultural patronage. Kachwahas played a dominant role in the political and cultural development of Rajasthan.

- Ancestry: The kachwahas originated from Lord Rama’s son Kush symbolising Raghuvanshi lineage.
- Origin of Name: The dynasty has been named after a rather early ancestor, Kachwaha.
- Religious Significance: such instruments as Veena and Mridangam are consecrated with such divine personalities as Saraswati, Krishna, and Nandi, and are respected in the rituals of royalty.

Early Expansion
- Dulherai (Tejkaran): He settled in Dausa and Ramgarh in 1137 AD arriving at Narwar after defeating Meenas.
- Construction: Constructed Jamvay Mata temple, which signified religious domination.
- Kakildev (1207 AD): Conquered Amer, sent it capital and constructed Ambikeshwar temple.
- Rajdev: Built Kadmi Mahal of Amer where coronation ceremonies were performed.

- Bharmal (1547–1573)
- Early Rajput to submit to Mughal rule (1562).
- He gave his daughter in marriage to Emperor Akbar, and on this occasion was granted the title of Amir-ul-Umara.
- Bhagwantdas (1573–1589)
- Became governor of Punjab, as well as put down Gujarat protests.
- Gave his daughter in marriage to Prince Salim (Jahangir).
- Man Singh I (1589-1614)
- Holding that of 7,000, was one of the greatest mansabs of the Rajputs.
- Directed Mughal raids to Bengal, Kabul, Bihar and Puri.
- Acted up and built Amer Fort and other strategic buildings.
- Mirza Raja Jai Singh I (1621-1667)
- Served in the reign of Jahangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb.
- Conducted the negotiations of the Treaty of Purandar (1665) with Shivaji.
- Constructed Jaigarh Fort and extended the powers of the kingdom.
- Sawai Jai Singh II (1700-1743)
- Established the first planned city in India, of Jaipur, 1727.
- Patron of astronomy- Jantar Mantar (Jaipur, Delhi, Ujjain) was constructed.
- Encouraged science, architectural and urban planning.

- Pratap Singh: He established Alwar as capital (1774)
- Bakhtawar Singh: signed a treaty with the British in 1803.
- Vinay Singh: Re-developed Tijara, constructed Moosi Maharani ki chhatri.
- Jai Singh (19 th century):
- Publicized BHU and AMU.
- Prohibited child marriage and advocated Swadeshi movement.
- Built Sariska Palace.
- Tej Singh: Condition of Alwar at independence; afterwards exonerated of any implication with regard to Gandhi assassination investigations.
