How Optional Subjects Affect Your Personality Test in RPSC RAS Exam

Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS) examination that is held by Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) is one of the most awe-inspiring state-level examinations. Once you qualify the Preliminary and Mains examination, you have to undergo the Personality Test (Interview) , the penultimate and concluding step during the selection process. Knowledge and preparation are also important but one less talked about and important element is how your optional subject in the examination can also affect the personality test.
This blog will dissect the importance of optional subjects in taking your interview and the expectations of the panel and how aspirants can approach them strategically. We will also discuss the RAS interview format, do’s and don’ts, dress code and a list of what to carry on the INTERVIEW day.
Why Optional Subjects Matter in the RAS Interview

Therefore, your optional paper and the subject you graduated in can indirectly formulate your interview.

RAS Interview Format 2025
The RAS interview is designed to assess personality and suitability for administrative roles, not just factual knowledge.
After passing the Mains, the last phase is the interview process that is done by Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC). It does not aim at testing theoretical knowledge but the ability of a candidate to analyze his personality, confidence, in decision-making as well as leadership. The interview could take about 20-30 minutes; however, it varies with the direction of questions given by the panel. The panel is usually composed of senior administrators, subject experts and RPSC members, who in conjunction evaluate the suitability of the candidate in the administration functions. The subject areas tend to be those related to contemporary affairs, matters of Rajasthan governance, ethical questions and dilemmas, leadership questions, and problem solving methodologies, and thus the candidate is assessed in an all round manner as about his/her future prospects as a civil servant.
